Yunus Emre Institute has published the "Yunus Emre Turkish ABC Teaching Set" in order to contribute to the Turkish reading and writing skills of people in the first literacy process. The teaching set aims to support learners who have problems in reading and writing skills while learning Turkish due to the alphabet difference, Syrian refugees who are victims of war, and Turkish learners at the first literacy level.

AIMS TO GAIN TURKISH LITERACY SKILLS

After opening Azaz and Afrin Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centers, Yunus Emre Institute started the preparatory work for the first literacy kit based on the needs analysis in the field. The book set, of which Prof. Özay Karadağ and Prof. Bayram Baş created the curriculum and authored, was prepared to support to adaptation process of war-torn refugees in Turkey, to encourage learners to use the Turkish alphabet correctly, and to help learners acquire Turkish literacy skills.

A VERSATILE BOOK TO IMPROVE TURKISH VOCABULARY

The difference of the book set prepared according to sound groups, as in the first literacy education given to native speakers, from the first literacy sets used by the Ministry of National Education is that it is a versatile book. The sound-based sentence method was used as the basis for the preparation of the book. In the division of the book, the sound order and A1.1 level topics were adhered to. It is also aimed to improve the Turkish vocabulary of the learner, who has become literate with the book set, with simple sentence structures.

The subjects in the books in the set progress with the teaching system of line to sound, sound to syllable, syllable to word, word to sentence and include basic tenses.

EDUCATIONAL GAMES, PUZZLES AND COLORING BOOKS ARE ALSO IN THE SET

In addition to the interesting educational games and puzzles in the teaching set, there are 3 different coloring books prepared by the Instructor Esra Hımhım in order to reinforce the knowledge gained by the learners. We hope that "Yunus Emre Turkish ABC Teaching Set" will be useful to learners, language teachers and field experts.
