Yunus Emre Poetry Exhibition in Johannesburg

“Yunus Emre Poetry Exhibition” event was held at Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute.  Yunus Emre's poems written in modern calligraphy were exhibited in the exhibition held on November 19, 2021, on the occasion of the declaration of 2021 by Turkish Republic Presidency as the "Year of Yunus Emre and Turkish" and UNESCO's coverage of the 700th anniversary of Yunus Emre's death and anniversaries. 

The art of modern calligraphy and poems written in English and Turkish by traditional Turkish handicrafts trainees who continue their education at the institute were presented to art lovers in the exhibition. The works in which the South African trainees portrayed the historical and common values ​​of Turkey and Yunus Emre with the art of charcoal were also included in the exhibition.

 

THE WORKS EXPRESS THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES

The works, in which Yunus Emre's poems find a different visual expression with his beautiful handwritten art, were met with great interest by South African art lovers. Art works by Turkish and South African artists, reflecting Turkish art, Yunus Emre's values ​​and poems, and expressing the friendship between both countries, were highly appreciated.

MANDELA'S GROUNDAUHTERS ALSO ATTENDED

T.R. In her speech at the opening of the exhibition, Ambassador of Pretoria Ayşegül Kandaş talked about 2021 Yunus Emre and the Turkish year. Ndileka Mandela, the eldest granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, the first democratic President of the Republic of South Africa, and Zamaswazi Dlamini Mandela, another granddaughter of Nelson Mandela and also Princess of Esvatini, attended the opening of the exhibition.

Yunus Emre's poem with tulip motifs was presented to Ambassador Kandaş, Ndileka Mandela and Princess Dlamini Mandela by the Institute.

As part of the event, South African Mxolisi Carrington Mayisa, one of the trainees who learned Turkish at Yunus Emre Institute, wrote Yunus Emre's poem "I Need You, You"; Camillo Zimba, on the other hand, sang the poem "Knowledge is To Know" in Turkish and English, and won the appreciation of the participants.

Yunus Emre Poetry Exhibition was exhibited at Johannesburg Yunus Emre Enstitüsü for two weeks.
