The Sad Story of Ertugrul staged in Tokyo

With collaboration of Tokyo Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Nihon University, the radio play Sound of the Sea, adapted from Ertuğrul Disaster by Behçet Necatigil, was staged in Tokyo on March 23rd , 2016.

The play that is a project implemented by Tokyo Yunus Emre Enstitüsü to promote Turkish culture and art, was on stage after the year long efforts by students of Nihon University Department of Theatre.

In the 126th anniversary of Ertuğrul Frigate Disaster, a cornerstone of friendly relations between the two countries, the play narrating Ertuğrul’s voyage was translated into Japanese and was adapted to the  theatre by students under supervision of teachers.

Tokyo Ambassador A. Bülent Meriç who attended the performance in Nihombashi Koukaido attended by nearly 400 guests, expressed his appreciation in his opening speech for the organisation of such an event and thanked those who contributed.
