“Turkish Summer School” Students Discover Turkey

Foreign students who came to Turkey for the “Turkish Summer School”, which has been organized for the eighth time this year, get to know Turkish culture and learn Turkish by experiencing it in the country.

Within the scope of the Turkish Summer School Organization, which has hosted about 3500 students since 2010, the students have the opportunity to improve their Turkish language skills, to visit the historical and touristic places of our country and to observe Turkish culture in Turkey personally.

This year, the program hosts 1000 participants consisting students of Yunus Emre Institutes operating abroad and Turcology students from universities having a protocol with the Institute as well as many other students who want to get to know Turkey and Turkish language more closely from 118 different countries.

Turkish Summer School students hosted by 32 universities in 29 different cities across Turkey have also the opportunity to visit different regions of Turkey.

Freshened up with shaved ice in Denizli

21 students from 17 different countries receiving education at Pamukkale University discovered the historical and natural beauties of Denizli after the Turkish lessons they took until midday.

Paying visits to historical places such as Ethnography Museum, Coppersmith Bazaar and Kaleiçi, the students also visited the roasted chickpea factory and weaving workshops. The students, having also the chance to taste delicacies peculiar to that region, also practically saw how the regional dishes are prepared in the gastronomy workshops they participated. In the events livened up with activities, such as traditional Turkish games, folk dances etc. the students enjoyed Turkey to the fullest.

Enjoying sailing on a boat in Bursa

26 students from 22 countries who attended Turkish lessons at Uludağ University Applied Research Center for Turkish Language Teaching (ULUTÖMER) started the city tour in Bursa after the orientation meeting. After the city tour including visits in the Grand Mosque, Tophane, Covered Bazaar, the Historic Tree/Sycamore and Amir Sultan, the students visited places such as Gölyazı and İznik Lake and enjoyed different regional tastes. Mangala tournament, traditional children’s games and Turkish ceramics workshop were also among the activities students enjoyed along with Turkish cuisine workshop.

Boat Tour in Samsun

31 students from 30 countries discovered Samsun and its vicinity after Turkish lessons they took at Ondokuz Mayıs University until midday. Starting the tour with sea bicycles and canoes at Amisos Hill, the students also visited the old bazaar, Bandırma Ferry Museum, City Museum and the natural life park which is the largest one of its region. Attending the henna night and wedding ceremony as part of intangible cultural events, students again caught the chance to travel through the region and surroundings. Turkish Summer School participants visiting Sinop and Erfelek fountains, made a boat tour on Vezirköprü Şahinkaya Canyon on the way of return to Samsun.  Students participating in activities, such as bike tour on the beach and horse riding as well as attending marbling and pottery workshops did not miss to taste local food.

#Discover Turkey

1000 students from different cultures, religions and races have been hosted in 28 different provinces of Turkey this year. As emphasized before, the working language of the multicultural group is Turkish and young people, aiming to experience Turkey and getting to know Turkish culture and history of Turkey better within the context of the summer school will compete with each other in a friendly contest as part of the program until August 12.

Besides, participants sharing photos reflecting their feelings and memories on the social media, will experience the excitement of a keen competition in the categories of photo, video and text themed Turkey under the hashtag “Discover Turkey”.
