Academicians Assignation to Foreign Countries Information Meeting

As part of Turcology project, academicians assigned to foreign countries by Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Ministry of National Education were informed in a meeting held on 26 August.

Institute Director Prof. Dr. Hayati Develi made an opening speech in the ceremony, and pointed out that the academicians were elected and assigned by Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Ministry of National Education together. Develi stressed that institutions should support one another especially in activities carried out abroad, and particularly Turcologists have an important part to play in these activities. Develi addressed Turcologists, each assigned to a different corner of the world, saying these missions require dedication, and academicians should not restrict themselves to only teaching Turkish. Develi remarked that they would greatly appreciate academicians' support to Institute's activities and other academicians' efforts, and real job falls on Turcologists.

Ministry of National Education European Union and Foreign Affairs Head of Department Ahmet Yandırmaz took the floor, and underlined that “they are a big family gathered for a common cause”. He announced that Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Ministry are to sign a protocol soon. Yandırmaz pointed out the hardships faced in some European countries regarding teaching Turkish as native language, and requested the support of academicians to local teachers instructing Turkish under hard conditions in those countries. Yandırmaz also noted YÖK's (Council of Higher Education) efforts in the subject.

Council of Higher Education International Affairs Unit Expert Fırat Güzeldağ made a speech, informing the audience on Mevlana Exchange Program, a student and instructor exchange program executed by YÖK. Underlining that Mevlana Exchange Program launched in 2013-2014 academic season is distinct from Erasmus Exchange Program in terms of sending students also to non-member European Union countries, Güzeldağ outlined the student and instructor election criteria and program content.

Following the protocol speeches made in the first half of the program, Yunus Emre Institute informed audience about the Turcology Project, Yunus Emre Institute’s Turkish language training and instruction activities abroad, promoted the material produced for these activities, and activities and applications of Institute's Exam Center Unit.

In the second half of the program, academicians made presentations illustrating various aspects of Turkish as a foreign language, and program ended following a q&a session.
