Thanks to the contributions of the Yunus Emre Institute, the ancient art olympics, which date back centuries and are facing to be forgotten, will start to be held again in 2023.

Yunus Emre Institute broke new ground in its activities in the art field and became one of the stakeholders of the Modern Art Olympics (Olymp'Arts), which is intended to be revitalized under the leadership of UNESCO, the United Nations and the World Olymp'Arts Council (WOAC).

THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS HOLDING THE OLYMPICS

The World Olymp'Arts Council and Yunus Emre Institute signed a cooperation protocol for various cultural areas, especially the Modern Art Olympics, which is planned to be held in Geneva in 2023.

The digital protocol signing ceremony was attended by Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Şeref Ateş and World Olymp'Arts Council President Rachel Qin.

THE HISTORICAL PROCESS OF THE ART OLYMPICS

The Art Olympics is an international Olympic event that dates back to 566 BC, beginning in Ancient Greece and repeated every four years in the year following the traditional summer sports Olympics, which have been gradually forgotten over time.

In the early 1990s, under the leadership of the United Nations, art olympics were revived on a global scale and a charter was signed in 1995 with the participation of 65 countries, including Turkey, in order to hold Modern Art Olympics on a global scale under the umbrella of UNESCO.

After the preparations for its establishment, it was decided that the international headquarters of the Art Olympics would be in Geneva and the Olympics would be held in 2021, but it was postponed to 2023 due to the ongoing global pandemic.

ARTISTS FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD WILL COME TOGETHER

The Art Olympics, which attracts prestigious art institutions and academies from many countries, will bring together artists from around 20 art disciplines such as cinema, photography, dance, music and ceramics in Geneva between September 29 and October 6, 2023.

In his speech, Institute President Prof. Ateş stated: "As Yunus Emre Institute, we are pleased to take part as a stakeholder in an organization with centuries of history.   The Modern Art Olympics has an important place among the large-scale projects of which we are a stakeholder in order to promote art in Turkey and abroad and to support both Turkish and foreign artists."

Prof. Ateş stated that culture and arts are among Yunus Emre Institute's main fields of activity and emphasized that the Institute increases the cultural interaction between Turkey and other countries through its cultural and artistic activities.
