The film moving France to tears under the quarantine: 7. Koğuştaki Mucize

After the film started to be aired on Netflix on March 13, 2020, the BFM TV, one of the leading news channels of France, asked how "7. Koğuştaki Mucize" (Miracle in Cell No. 7) became the top-streamed film. According the statistics provided by Netflix, the film soon ranked first in the top 10 most watched films in France. Thanks to the social media posts by French celebrities, the number of the people who watched the film exceeded 5 million in just 17 days.

The very innocence of the characters and the affection between the father and the daughter in the film, directed by Mehmet Ada Öztekin and featuring Aras Bulut İynemli as the lead actor, mesmerized the viewers. As it showcased the natural assets of Turkey, the film has increased the interest in our country.

"7. Koğuştaki Mucize" has been covered not only by TV channels, but also attracted the attention of cinema critics, and the reasons for the film's impact on the French society have been examined from a scientific point of view. Dr. Françoise Zamour, a faculty member in cinematography at l’ENS University in Paris, penned an article entitled "Despised Innocence and Victory of Truth" concerning "7. Koğuştaki Mucize." In the article, he discussed the film's effects on the French society.

Giving an interview to investigative journalist Cüneyt Özdemir via the Institute's social media accounts, Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş stressed the success of the film in France and talked about the effects of cultural reflections on societies and people. Prof. Dr. Ateş said: "Although there are negative sentiments and perceptions about Turkey in France, the film could make impact on people with an extraordinary success. Indeed, the film places emphasis on the notion of "spirit" of Turkish culture. The film touches the very spirit of people."
