Homage to Health Professionals

A concert has been held on the Internet for Turkish and Kosovar health professionals.

Yunus Emre Institute has organized a live concert aired on the Internet on April 9 as homage to the Turkish and Kosovar health professionals working in risky environments for public health due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

As part of the concert prepared by the Institute in Turkish and Albanian with Kosovar musicians, 26 musicians from the Kosovar Turkish community took the stage. Turkish and Albanian songs such as Şar Dağında Kalkar Kazlar, Tuman ku qe, Memleketim and Ramizem were sung as a chorus.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Pristina Çağrı Sakar and Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş attended the live broadcast event, presented by Pelin Çift and Feride Zeynullah.

In his keynote speech, Minister Ersoy indicated that the world is on an all-out war against Covid-19 and physicians and nurses stage a legendary fight against the pandemic. Ersoy offered his condolences to the health professionals who lost their lives due to Covid-19. "Every one of them will continue to be our guides in this path where humanitarian values are glorified. I wish swift recovery to the health professionals who are currently under treatment. I would like to express my and the nation's gratitude to our Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, who has been appreciated by our nation for his meticulous and painstaking work and transparent sharing of data in such an exceptional period," he said.

Noting that the fight against COVID-19 is a collective combat by all nations, Ersoy underlined that they will continue to take necessary measures and implement them with determination. Ersoy also congratulated Yunus Emre Institute for organizing such an event and expressed his thanks to the Kosovar musicians who attended the concert.

Institute President Ateş indicated that the concert has been organized as homage to the health professionals who are working to treat the COVID-19 patients all around the world. Pointing out that humanity is currently facing a tremendous problem called Covid-19, Ateş said: "Today, we understand once again the importance of letting people live and the absurdity of competition and power struggles in international relations."

Ateş touched on the fact that the Institute has been conducting activities on science and culture as two major assets of humanity. "This Institute, established 10 years ago with our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's initiatives, has been working to promote Turkey's perspective on the world, its humanitarian values and establish humanitarian ties by producing science and culture. This evening, I respectfully greet everyone working to keep people alive and organize people at times of crises," he said.

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Pristina Çağrı Sakar stated that he takes pride in the sisters and brothers in Kosovo and expressed his thanks to the organizers of the event.

At the end of the program, the participants from 32 cities from 29 countries gave the message "#StayHome" in their own languages.
