Science and Technology in Andalusian and Ottoman Civilizations

The conference entitled "Science and Technology in Andalusian and Ottoman Civilizations," organized by Yunus Emre Institute as part of "Year of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin," has brought Turkish and Spanish academics together.

Within the frame of the events held after the Presidency of the Turkish Republic has declared 2019 as the "Year of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin," the conference "Science and Technology in Andalusian and Ottoman Civilizations" has been launched thanks to cooperation among Yunus Emre Institute's Madrid Branch, Istanbul University and the Autonomous University of Madrid.

During opening session of the academic conference with international attendance, the focus was on the work by and contribution to the history of science of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, who dedicated a great proportion of his 94-year life to the study of Muslim scientists and scholars and played a great role in giving them their well-deserved place in the science history studies.

Following the opening session, the academics who were experts in the field of history of science from Istanbul University, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Complutense University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Granada discussed the contribution of Muslim scientists and scholars to science and technology in Andalusia and Ottoman Empire.

Turkish and Spanish academics stressed the need to enhance cooperation and joint work between the academics of both countries.
