Turkish Courses Begin at Mekelle University

Yunus Emre Institute continues its Turkish Instruction operations as part of its academic collaborations. Within the scope of the agreement signed between Yunus Emre Institute and one of the leading universities in Ethiopia, Mekkele University, Turkish lessons will be offered as of second semester.

In relation to cooperation agreements signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu in February 2017 at the Presidential Complex, Yunus Emre Institute continues its operations in the field of Turkish Instruction and solidifies the cultural bridges it has established by bringing Turkey's cultural heritage to many corners of the world through Turkish language, by way of academic cooperation.

Following the first step taken in 2017 with the establishment of the Chair of Turcology led by Addis Ababa University and Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish courses will be offered in 2018 at three major universities of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Mekelle, Wollo). Within the framework of the protocol signed with Mekelle University, Turkish language courses will be offered to students and staff of the university as of second semester. An important step will be taken to strengthen academic, scientific, commercial and cultural ties with Turkish lessons to be offered in Mekelle University, one of the leading universities in Ethiopia.

Teachers assigned from Turkey will teach in the Turkish Language Instruction project launched thanks to strong support of Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish Embassy to Ethiopia Addis Ababa, Mekelle University Advisor of University and Industry Relations Dr. Macit Koç and university administration. Turkish courses to be launched will be coordinated by the Foreign Language Department as in Chinese, Japanese and Korean departments, and will be supervised as an international languages. Students who are successful in the program will also be eligible to participate in the Turkish Summer School organized by Yunus Emre Institute.
