The Yunus Emre Institute is continuing its educational assistance for Syrian students, which it began in 2016. The Yunus Emre Institute, which had in the phase distributed 10  thousand stationery items and schools bags, sent this time 7.500 school bags for primary and secondary school students studying in  the  Syrian towns of Jarablus, Azez, Afrin and Çobanbey which are situated within the areas covered by the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch operations. The bags were full of various kinds of stationery items such as booknotes in different  sizes, pen boxes, pens, paint sets, erasers and pencil sharpeners

The bags, prepared by the Institute teams, were first taken to the Çobanbey Border Gate in Elbeyli, Kilis, and then transferred  to Syria students in schools and camps in Syria.

“Awareness for humanity”

The President of the Institute Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş said on this occasion that Turkey didn’t remain indifferent to the humanitarian tragedy in Syria and extended its hand to the Syrian people with its various institutions, adding that the Institute, which has more than 50 centers and 119 liaison points in 40 countries, continued to raise “awareness for humanity.”

Prof. Ateş pointed out that the Institute has developed different projects for the education of Syrian children and continued:

“We have organized a  number of activities to make our Syrian guests feel at home, not like strangers. In this context, in November 2016, we organized “Robotic Education Programs for Syrian Children.” In December 2016, we sent 10 thousand school bags full of stationary items to the schools within the areas of the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch operations. Then, we took the Mobile Mathematics Museum to meet with the Syrian children living in the Sarıçam Temporary Accommodation Center in Adana which is considered the biggest container city in the world. We  contributed to the enhancement of Syrian children’s interests for science, mathematics and physical sciences with the “Mobile Mathematics Museum”, which is  organized within the framework of the Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project of Turkey (TABİP) conducted under the auspices of the Presidency.”  Now we are distributing school bags and stationary items for the students in the area of the Operation Euphrates Shield.

As stated by our President, today Turkey is the leading country in the world in terms of humanitarian aid. With our own means, we have become the voice of conscience and the hope of the oppressed peoples and we will continue to be so.”
