Turkish Cinema Nights Launched in Nicosia
Open-air cinema nights, missed by many in Nicosia, have been re-launched this year. Cult films of Yeşilçam cinema and contemporary example of Turkish cinema will be aired at the fourth "Open Air Summer Cinema: Turkish Cinema Nights," organized by Yunus Emre Institute's Nicosia branch.
Yunus Emre Institute's Nicosia branch continues to screen films at "Open Air Summer Cinema: Turkish Cinema Nights," an event it has traditionalized and organized for the fourth time this year.
TURKISH CINEMA FUN IN SUMMER NIGHTS
The open-air cinema culture has a special place in the culture of Turkish Cypriots and it has been revived thanks to this event organized by the Institute. With the event that offers an alternative opportunity to have enjoyable time in hot summer evenings, Turkish Cypriots had a chance to watch Yeşilçam films, which had a significant place in Turkish cinema history, as well as contemporary examples of Turkish cinema. Turkish Cypriots live this nostalgic night every Wednesday throughout July.
OPEN AIR CINEMA NOSTALGIA
The Institute makes use of sophisticated technology to revive the air the open-air film screenings at the inner courtyard of its historical building in Suriçi, Nicosia. Anyone who is keen to have a nostalgic voyage can attend freely the film screenings during which pop corns and cold beverages are offered to the participants.

"Kırımlı," a film featuring Murat Yıldırım and portraying human tragedy and sorrows which Tatar prisoners of war went through in German prison camps during the Second World War, was screened as part of Turkish Cinema Nights in Nicosia. |
The first film aired by the Institute on July 1 at the "Open Air Summer Cinema: Turkish Cinema Nights" was "Selvil Boylum Al Yazmalım" (The Girl with the Red Scarf), a legendary Yeşilçam production, starring Türkan Şoray and Kadir İnanır. "Kırımlı," a film featuring Murat Yıldırım and portraying human tragedy and sorrows which Tatar prisoners of war went through in German prison camps during the Second World War, was screened on July 8.
"AHLAT AĞACI" IN CINEMA NIGHTS
As part of the event, "Ankara Yazı Veda Mektubu," a 2016 production, will be aired on Thursday, July 16. The last film to be screened on Wednesday, July 22 is "Ahlat Ağacı" (Wild Pear Tree), a drama by famous director Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
Due to the COVID-19 measures, participation in film screenings is done after completing the forms posted on the Institute's social media accounts and booking their seats.
