19 May Youth and Sports Day Celebrated

May 19 Youth and Sports Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and joy at the centers of Yunus Emre Institute around the world.

Ceremonies were held at many centers including Yunus Emre Institute in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Rabat Yunus Emre Institute in Morocco, on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of May 19, 1919, which is accepted as the date when the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk went to Samsun and started the Turkish War of Independence.

MAY 19 EXCITEMENT IN SARAJEVO

A concert was held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the “May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day’’ events.

Turkey Ambassador to Sarajevo Sadık Babür Girgin, Sarajevo Yunus Emre Institute Director Mehmet Akif Yaman, Sarajevo Education Counselor Faruk Berat Akçeşme, officials of the institutions of Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and students attended the program organized by Sarajevo Educational Consultancy, Yunus Emre Institute (YEI), and International University of Sarajevo (IUS).

Turkish and Bosnian songs were performed by IUS Turkology students at the concert held at the Military House of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Yaman, in his statement at the program, said, “As part of the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day events, we came together for the concert prepared by IUS Turkology students in Sarajevo today. We hope that we will have to chance to commemorate and understand this important day again with Turkish and Bosnian songs prepared by our students in this important building.

Akçeşme said, “As the Educational Consultancy, we organized various programs in Sarajevo, Zenica, and Mostar. We celebrate this day with Bosnian students, just as we do in Turkey.’’

MAY 19 CELEBRATIONS IN RABAT

Yunus Emre Institute May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, and April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day were celebrated together at the Turkish Embassy Residence in Rabat. Within the scope of the celebration program, a program was organized in which Turkish and Moroccan children and young people living in Morocco participated. In residence, which was specially decorated for the event, traditional games such as Mangala, Mas-Wrestling, and sack race were played for the children. Various gifts from Yunus Emre Institute were given as memories to the children who added color to the program with their songs, poems, and paintings.
