Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) and Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) organized the third “Workshop on Media Literacy and Turkish in the Digital Age” in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin, Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Şeref Ateş, Ambassador of Turkey to Bucharest Füsun Aramaz, former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, author Hayati İnanç, Information Technologies and Communication board member Dr. Ahmet Kılıç, Yunus Emre Institute Bucharest Director Mustafa Yıldız, and many guests attended the workshop.

Before the event on 29 January 2021, which is going to be the third workshop held in coordination with Yunus Emre Institute, RTÜK President Şahin said that the workshop has become a program that is followed and valued very closely.

"The increase of such organizations is important in that the Turkish people abroad, our citizens, our compatriots, friends of this language abroad, feel their country and nation by their side," he said. Şahin expressed his gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who gave them the opportunity to cooperate.

Yunus Emre Institute President Ateş also emphasized the fact that as an institution, they have established bonds of trust in the countries in which the institute operates.

Stating that they came together with the Romanian people and the media through the presentations of scientists from Turkey, Ateş said that they improved the workshop further and published the results in paper.

Pointing out that he thought that the workshop is very substantial in terms of using Turkish more in media channels and in content production, Ateş emphasized that the two institutions working together is very productive in this respect.

Ambassador Füsun Aramaz underlined the fact that Turkish language has a very special place in Romania and stated that the importance of learning Turkish has been once again pointed out thanks to this event.

FORMER PRIME MINISTER PONTA DELIVERED AN OPENING SPEECH IN TURKISH

Speaking in Turkish at the opening of the event, Victor Ponta, the former Prime Minister of Romania, said that he learned Turkish at Yunus Emre Institute and that he was excited to address the crowd in Turkish for the first time in an organization.

Ponta said, “I wanted to surprise you by speaking Turkish,” and added that he attended the event as a hardworking Turkish language student, rather than a former prime minister.

The workshop continued with author Hayati İnanç's book signing and Romanian music group Anton Pann's "Turkish and Romanian Melodies".

As part of the event, "Workshops" were held at Bucharest Yunus Emre Institute center on 30 January 2021.
