Turkish Coffee Day Celebrated Around the World

After United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared December 5 as the World Turkish Coffee Day in 2013, many events oriented at the Turkish coffee culture was organized in different countries of the world this year as well.

Turkish coffee, one of the world-renowned Turkish delights, has an important place in the Turkish tradition not only because of its unique taste in people's mouths, but also with its cooking method, presentation and accompaniment of the most valuable rituals of the Turkish culture. Turkish coffee, which is offered in some special occasions and which also makes the occasion in which it is offered special, shines out with its character that reinforces friendships with the saying, "A single cup of coffee is remembered for 40 years." Yunus Emre Institute organizes activities to introduce the Turkish coffee culture that has a special place with the bridges that it built in between hearts and organized a series of events on the occasion of the World Turkish Coffee Day on December 5, 2021 in collaboration with the Republic of Turkey Embassies and the Republic of Turkey Consulate Generals. The events held for the Turkish coffee, which is included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, attracted great deal of interest.

TURKISH COFFEE CULTURE WAS INTRODUCED IN CHINA

A promotion event for Turkish coffee was organized in Guangzhou, the capital of the Guangdong Province in China.

A promotion event for Turkish coffee was held on December 5 the World Turkish Coffee Day within the scope of the cultural activities entitled Anatolian Breeze, organized in collaboration with the Guangzhou library for the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Turkey and the People's Republic of China.

The history and culture of Turkish coffee was introduced at the event that was organized thanks to the contributions of Yunus Emre Institute. Neslihan Kul, the Vice Consul of the Republic of Turkey's Consulate General in Guangzhou, delivered a presentation about the contributions of the Turks in the creation of a global coffee culture.

Kul mentioned coffee's journey from Yemen to Europe and emphasized the importance of the coffee culture in the daily life of the Anatolian people.

Gökhan Bükmüş, business owner in the Shenzhen city of the Guangdong Province, explained the guests how to cook Turkish coffee in practice. Chinese guests had the chance to try different cooking techniques and showed special interest in sand-cooking. All guests who learned how to cook Turkish coffee were also gifted coffee cups.

TURKISH COFFEE DAY EVENT IN ALBANIA

An event was organized in Shkodër, the capital of Albania, on the occasion of December 5 the World Turkish Coffee Day. Turkish coffee was offered to the people of Shkodër in the event organized under the collaboration of Shkodër Yunus Emre Institute and Shkodër Municipality. The event in which the Turkish coffee was introduced and Turkish coffee culture was explained brought together the coffee lovers.

The event was held at the Pedonale Street, the busiest street of Shkodër, and enjoyable conversations were had under the theme "A single cup of coffee is remembered for 40 years."

Majlinda Angoni, Shkodër Deputy Mayor Emilia Koliqi, Shkodër Municipal Assembly President Brisela Truma Kadia, Cultural Heritage Shkodër Regional Director Besera Podgorica as well as many scholars, artists, students and people of Besera Podgorica showed great interest in the event.

Albanian press has also showed great interest in the Turkish coffee event in which the unique cooking techniques and the tradition were introduced.

TURKISH COFFEE DAY WAS CELEBRATED IN NIGERIA

On the occasion of December 5 the World Turkish Coffee Day, a promotion event for Turkish coffee, which was included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013, was held at Abuja Yunus Emre Institute. Diplomats from Australia, Belgium, Sweden, Lebanon, Turkey and Venezuela, Korean Cultural Center Director Lee Jin-su and Korean Cultural Center participated in the event.

During the program, after screening a video about the Turkish coffee and its cooking methods, the Institute Director Macit Koç gave a speech about the history of Turkish coffee and its importance in Turkish culture. After the speech, the program continued with Turkish coffee and Turkish delight offerings. Enjoyable conversations were had with the guests during the offering about the delicacies of the Turkish coffee culture and its place in Turkish culture.
