Yunus Emre Institute, which has become an active actor in promoting Türkiye's cultural values around the world, organized a huge event in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, which included a series of activities called "Türkiye-Indonesia Culture Week".

Turkish Culture Left a Mark on the Memories of Indonesian Youth

Various elements of Türkiye's cultural heritage were introduced during the culture week organized by Jakarta Yunus Emre Institute in cooperation with Indonesia's prestigious educational institutions. Within the scope of Türkiye-Indonesia Culture Week, cultural activities were prepared for Indonesian high school and university students in different categories, including “Poetry Writing and Reading Contest, Turkish Cuisine Cooking Contest and Turkish Quiz Show.”

The first event of the culture week was the poetry writing and reading contest, hosted by Jakarta Yunus Emre Institute, with the participation of 45 students from the Maleo Foundation Special High School for the Gifted Students and the trainees of the Institute. In the competition, the candidates were given keywords related to the cultural elements of Türkiye and they were asked to write poems with these words and read the poems they wrote. Institute’s trainees participating in the competition wrote their poems in Turkish. The poetry competition was evaluated in two categories, local language and Turkish.

The Unforgettable Tastes of Turkish Cuisine

The second event of the Türkiye-Indonesia Culture Week, the "Turkish Cuisine Cooking Contest", started with the presentation of different dishes and desserts from the rich Turkish cuisine to 20 students from Mulia Private Gastronomy High School. Candidates were divided into groups and competed with each other to prepare the dishes and desserts determined for the competition menu.

Indonesian youth, who had the opportunity to get to know and experience the flavors of Turkish cuisine, which is among the few cuisines of the world, were amazed by the Turkish cuisine. Young people stated that they want to prepare the flavors they learned in the competition at home for their families.

“We are Extremely Pleased with the Tremendous Interest Shown in Our Culture”

Jakarta Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Cemal Şahin made the following statement: “Indonesians have a great interest in Turkish culture. We are extremely pleased with the tremendous interest shown in our culture, from gastronomy to literature, from history to art.
