Jerusalem Yunus Emre Yunus Emre Institute hosted the works of young Palestinian painters.

At the event held in cooperation with the Jerusalem High Art Institute at the Yunus Emre Institute in East Jerusalem under Israeli occupation, the works of Palestinian painters, most of whom are under the age of 20, reflecting the identity and values of Jerusalem in their paintings were exhibited.

THE EXHIBITION WAS DEDICATED TO ŞİRİN EBU AKİLE

The theme of the exhibition was dedicated to the famous Palestinian journalist Şirin Ebu Akile, who was killed by Israeli soldiers while on duty in the West Bank on May 11. In this context, various pencil drawings depicting Ebu Akile took an important place in the exhibition.

In addition to young painters, Turkey's Consul General in Jerusalem Ambassador Ahmet Rıza Demirer, Jerusalem Yunus Emre Institute Director Reha Ermumcu, Jerusalem High Art Institute President İsam Sabbah, and visitors from Jerusalem attended the exhibition.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Ambassador Demirer congratulated the young artists from Jerusalem for their work.

Pointing to the works depicting Şirin Ebu Akile in the exhibition, Demirer said, "We will always remember her with this smiling face."

Demirer said, “There is no other opportunity that can give a message as strong as the art. The message given by the young artists in the artworks here is the hope of all of us and shows us a future direction. I congratulate them Jerusalem is part of our heritage, and we are part of Jerusalem's legacy."

SHE DID HER WORKS INSPIRED BY THE WORDS "I AM THE DAUGHTER OF JERUSALEM"

Fatin Sidr, one of the young women painters from Jerusalem whose works were included in the exhibition, also said that she painted works based on Abu Akile's words, "I am the daughter of Jerusalem".

Stating that before her death, Abu Akile said, "I am the daughter of Jerusalem" in the last interview she gave at the Damascus Gate opening to the Old City of East Jerusalem, Sidr said, "Therefore, I'm painting what happened in Jerusalem and in Palestine in general; pain, sadness, captives, and martyrs. We deliver our message to the world through art and painting.”
