Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute held a sapling planting event in the garden of a school in Johannesburg, South Africa, within the scope of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Türkiye.

At the event held at Greyville Primary School in the Lenasia district of Johannesburg, 15 fruit saplings were planted in the school garden.

Afeera Khan, one of the administrators of the school that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, pointed out that their school is located in a very low-income area and used the following expressions: "We have many students coming from homes with low living standards and illegal settlements."

Khan thanked Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute and Türkiye's Embassy in Pretoria for the sapling planting event.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Pretoria, Ayşegül Kandaş, expressed her happiness in planting saplings at Greyville Primary School within the scope of Tree Planting Week on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

Ambassador Kandaş stated that they gave a speech introducing Türkiye  to teachers, students and parents at the school where more than a thousand students receive education.

Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Abdülaziz Yiğit stated that they planted 15 fruit saplings in the commemorative garden that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic and used the following expressions: "South African students who taste the fruits on these trees will remember us." 

At the event, stage performances were performed after the national anthems of Türkiye and the Republic of South Africa were sung by the students.
